2006 is here.

Wishing everyone a Happy, Healthy & Safe New Year. I didn't really do anything special to bring in New Year's this year. I spent a nice evening with friends and then drove home past midnight. On the way, I was able to join others in honking out Happy New Year greetings to each other, sing loudly to Dillagi and watch fireworks in the night sky. That was pretty. :) I'm not sad that I didn't go out and party like I did in 2001 or that I didn't make it down to Niagara (like I had originally planned). But I have been thinking, ok it's the beginning of another year. So? (Not in a caustic way, but a very general perception). Look at the world out there, somedays it seems to be an extremely scary place to live in. I'm all for looking at the world through rose-coloured glasses, but these days reality hits you in the face and I'm afraid my glasses have cracked. Anyway, I guess the important thing for an individual is to try to do the best he or she can and to try not to cause harm, if possible. I leave you with John Lennon's most famous lyrics (which was appropriately played at Times Square today).

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...
Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...
Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Happy New Year from BC time zone! We had a talent show (in our co-housing community); then some music; fireworks and some dancing. No one seemed to drink too much (well... one or two) and the teenagers seeemed to enjoy the old farts (for a while at least).

You're right - in the grand scheme of the universe, it's simply one more day that the earth has rotated in front of its sun. If it's special, it's only because we make it so... like every day.

As alwaya Gary, well said. That's my realization at the moment. Every thing, every experience is what we make or perceive it to be.

On an unrelated note: are you able to hear the music on my blog?
